Expert Advice - Choosing a Carpet Style

Jim Aaron, our VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, shares some information on the different carpet styles that are available.

Why Carpet?

Carpeting offers us a world of options, with solutions to solve all of your most pressing flooring dilemmas. There are carpet options for all types of settings, making it possible to please consumers from all walks of life, according to need and style.

Types of Carpet

So, you’ve got your heart set on carpeting. With so many types of carpet to consider, this is only the beginning. Whether you need a carpet that can help keep your allergies in check, or a carpet that can withstand regular ramblings of toddlers and pets, you have plenty of options.

Your new carpet’s fibers- also called pile- will play a major role in determining ultimate function. Here are the basics on different carpet piles.

Frieze or “shag” fiber earns its name from its twisted, shaggy appearance. Soft and welcoming, shag carpets have a retro look that’s great in casual rooms.

Level loop fiber is a great all-around carpet that’s appropriate for all types of spaces. It is extremely durable, with pile that’s short and looped.

Patterned fiber is a formal carpet that’s best reserved for quiet, low-traffic rooms. With pile woven to form intricate patterns, it has a luxurious appearance.

Textured fiber is rough to the touch, with its textured pile disguising wear, soiling, and stains. It is extremely durable and popular for commercial, as well as high-impact settings.

Plush fiber is extremely soft and velvety to the touch. Its thick pile isn’t very forgiving when it comes to footprints and vacuum lines, so this type of carpeting is best used in formal, low-impact settings.
